there are many reasons why, but one main reason is so that we do not create stereotypes about other religions or culture. It helps to know about the world and all the religions and cultures within it.
it we do not know about the religion then we just make up our own ideas to why a group of people preform a certain religion. Also we might make up reasons why the do such ritual's which could be the complete opposite of why they do such things. Overall its better for the world to have a overall understanding about other religions so that they understand instead of criticize :)
